PORT ALLEN - A 14-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder for the killing of a 15-year-old girl who was the unintended target of gunfire.

The teen was killed when the gunman was on a mission to kill someone else. Sources confirmed details of the arrest to the WBRZ Investigative Unit.

Port Allen Police Chief Corey Hicks told WBRZ Thursday they are remaining tight lipped about the investigation due to the ongoing investigation.

The young girl, Jazzimane Woods, was shot and killed Saturday at 2 a.m. as she was getting ready for bed.  A shooter opened fire on the apartment, hitting Woods multiple times.  She died at the hospital.

Neighbors told WBRZ the shooter opened fire on the wrong apartment.  Sources also confirmed that information and said the intended targeted lived nearby.

"She wasn't even involved in any of this," her father, Herman Forest Jr. told WBRZ. "She was getting ready to lay down and go to sleep and end her night and start her day." 

Woods was a model student and athlete who played softball for Port Allen High, according to school officials.

Port Allen High will be hosting a balloon release for her Friday morning. Students will be allowed to dress down and any money collected will be donated to her funeral expenses.

Two months ago, District Attorney Tony Clayton expressed concerns about the juvenile problems he was having.

"You cannot go home to momma after you've taken an AR 15, coaxed someone to come out at night to rob them and shoot them and try to kill them then go home to momma and eat corn flakes," Clayton said last month. "Not gonna happen."

At the time, Clayton said there needed to be a call to action.

"I'm asking the legislature to convene immediately to fix this juvenile problem," Clayton said. "How do you fix it? Give us a facility where we can pick them up, and detach them from a situation, educate them or whatever you want us to do. But, don't put an ankle bracelet on them and send them home."

Authorities did not identify the 14-year-old suspect because of his age.  Information about how the teen got the gun and the circumstances leading up to the shooting were not released.

Authorities said the investigation is not over.
