Hooper Rd. sobriety checkpoint leads to 2 DWIs, narcotics arrest
BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies in East Baton Rouge Parish say a sobriety checkpoint carried out in the 11800 block of Hooper Road on Thursday night led to a handful arrests including two DWIs and a narcotics arrest.
Deputies said a total of 244 vehicles were screened while the checkpoint was active with 10 sobriety field tests administered. In addition to the DWIs and narcotics arrest, deputies made an arrest for illegal possession of stolen things. and issued 14 citations.
The checkpoint was a joint agency enforcement effort involving the EBRSO, Central Police Department, Louisiana State Police and Baton Rouge Police Department. Enforcement efforts similar to the Hooper Rd. sobriety checkpoint will be ramped up through Labor Day as authorities promote the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
