High school basketball coach arrested on molestation charges
SLIDELL – Police in Slidell say a high school basketball coach is now facing multiple molestation charges after they say he solicited nude photos and had sex with a student in his classroom.
Slidell Police say 34-year-old Raymond Winzy was arrested Thursday on molestation and child porn charges. Winzy was a teacher at Slidell High School and also served as the girl's basketball coach.
Police say they received a complaint on March 9 about Winzy having inappropriate contact with a female student. Investigators executed a search warrant on Winzy’s home, classroom and phone and found inappropriate conversations with students through text messages and social media. Police say they also found nude photos and video of underage students.
Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said Winzy developed relationships with students, touched them inappropriately and asked for nude photos. Smith said Winzy offered better grades to students who submitted and allegedly had sex with one student in his classroom.
“This investigation is far from over,” Smith said. “It’s bad enough when someone takes advantage of a child. This is ten times worse. It’s disgusting.”
Police say some victims have been bullied by other students since Winzy’s arrest. Smith warned of more arrests if the bullying continues.
Slidell Police say Winzy spent time teaching and coaching at multiple schools across the New Orleans area. Investigators are expecting more victims to come forward.
