Girlfriend charged with negligent homicide in shooting death of boyfriend
BATON ROUGE - A woman was arrested and charged with negligent homicide this morning in the shooting death of her boyfriend.
Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Larriana Hughes said she returned to Christopher Payne's residence after receiving a text message following an argument from earlier in the day, according to BRPD. Hughes said she was immediately confronted by Payne who slapped her in the face.
Payne then reportedly grabbed a handgun from the car, loaded it and gave it to Hughes. He then told her this was her chance to get rid of him.
Hughes said she picked up the gun to move it when Payne slapped her again, causing her to accidentally fire the gun which struck Payne in the torso area.
Hughes said the shooting was strictly an accident and did not discharge the gun out of self-defense or anger.
