Former firefighter accused of hiding cameras in restrooms, charged with child pornography
PONCHATOULA - Allegations of voyeurism have led to a number of other charges filed against a former volunteer firefighter, including child pornography.
Authorities began investigating 42-year-old James Vining in May 2018. It was determined that before a Halloween party in October 2017 Vining allegedly placed a camera in the woman's bathroom at the 8th Ward Firehouse, the station he was assigned to.
The investigation also revealed that Vining allegedly hid cameras in his own home and captured unsuspecting visitors and friends.
On July 23, 2018, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at Vining's home in Ponchatoula. During the search, authorities found drugs and several guns.
Vining was arrested and charged on July 24 with video voyeurism, possession of marijuana, possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm while in possession of controlled dangerous substances. The next day, he was charged with 17 more counts of video voyeurism. The following week, he was also charged with pornography involving a juvenile.
