For sale: Cortana on the market for $4 million
BATON ROUGE – The proverbial for sale sign might spell the end for Cortana Mall as we know it.
The mall was listed recently, with an asking price of $4 million. The JC Penny space is also for sale, going for $2.4 million. Both are being handled by Beau Box Real Estate.
Las Vegas-based Moonbeam Capital Investments purchased the mall for $6 million in 2013 and planned to restore the shopping center. Plans likely hit roadblocks with more and more stores closing – only one anchor store remains, a consignment Dillard's that uses only one of its two floors.
Cortana opened in 1976. In 1997, the Mall of Louisiana opened and sucked much of the life out of Cortana – ironically, similar to what Cortana did to the Bon Marche shopping center. Bon Marche, at the corner of Florida and Lobdell, is now a business complex called Bon Carre.
