Eight students given citations for lunch brawl at area high school
WHITE CASTLE – Sheriff's deputies wrote a misdemeanor summons – tickets requiring someone to appear in court on a certain charge – to eight students after a brawl at the high school Wednesday.
Two groups of students broke out into a fight in the cafeteria around lunchtime, Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi told WBRZ. The school resource officer reported the fight to deputies, who are handling the investigation.
Charges could be upgraded depending on the seriousness of injuries, the sheriff said.
A misdemeanor summons does not require anyone to be booked into jail. A judge will make a determination on punishment if the citation is taken to court at a later date.
It's not clear if anyone was severely injured but Stassi said a parent took one of the kids involved to a hospital.
The fight was recorded on someone's cell phone and shared with WBRZ. Video of the fight is attached to the top of this story.
