Edwin Edwards admitted to hospital with pneumonia
BATON ROUGE - Louisiana's most infamous politician was admitted into an area hospital for pneumonia, a source close to the family revealed Wednesday.
Doctors were treating Edwin Edwards with antibiotics. Edwards' condition quickly improved, WBRZ learned. Sources said the former governor has already returned to his witty self, asking for unhealthy food and watching political TV.
Edwards developed a cough while visiting friends in Mississippi.
"We take his health very seriously, so we stopped by the hospital on our way home," Edwards' wife, Trina, said in a statement provided to WBRZ News 2. "We should be able to go home tomorrow," she added.
Edwards has spent the week traveling. Saturday night, he attended the campaign party of newly-elected Governor John Bel Edwards in New Orleans. The pair are not family, only sharing a similar last name.
Edwards is 88-years-old.
