UPDATE: The sheriff's office says a 16-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting this morning.

The teen was arrested Wednesday afternoon and booked into juvenile detention on charges of First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, Illegal Carry and Discharge of a Weapon and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property.

The teenage suspect was not identified.

BATON ROUGE- One teenager is dead and another is recovering from an early morning shooting that apparently stemmed from a drug deal.

According to a release, detectives responded to a call of a shooting on Truman Street around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say the two individuals went to carry out a drug transaction while in a vehicle parked in front of an abandoned residence. The individuals that came to meet the two victims allegedly shot into the vehicle, striking both inside.

The victims fled in the vehicle to a nearby apartment complex where the 16-year-old died of his injuries. The sheriff's office later identified the victim as Rynell Alexander.

The second victim fled on foot to a nearby gas station where emergency responders were called.

The investigation is ongoing. Check back for updates.
