White, Weston Broome advance to EBR Mayoral runoff

BATON ROUGE - Bodi White and Sharon Weston Broome have entered a runoff for East Baton Rouge Mayor-President following Tuesday's election.

A dozen people were running in the race that featured business leaders along with members of city and state government.  There were four republicans, four democrats and four candidates campaigned as either libertarian or not having a party affiliation. White is a Republican and Weston Broome is a Democrat.

As of 10:20 p.m., Weston Broome received more than 28,418 votes (30%); White received 28,288 votes (29%).

The runoff election is Saturday, December 10.

The winner replaces Kip Holden who is term-limited.  Holden, a Democrat, has served as mayor of Baton Rouge since January 2005.  He was elected in November 2004.  Holden campaigned for lieutenant governor last year and U.S. Senator this year.
