Man arrested in deadly Hammond double-shooting

HAMMOND - Authorities in Hammond have made an arrest in a deadly Monday (Feb. 8) afternoon shooting that took the life of one individual and left a second injured.

According to an updated from the Hammond Police Department, 19-year-old Taurus Robinson turned himself in to Hammond detectives. Robinson is connected to the shooting death of 30-year-old Dewayne Hutton on Feb. 8, officials say.

Action News 17 reported that it was around 2:42 p.m. when authorities with the Hammond Police Department rushed to the 100 block of East Stanley in response to a call regarding area gunfire.

As police converged on the crime scene, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds and both were brought to North Oaks Medical Center by ambulance.

One of the injured persons, Hutton, succumbed to their injuries, passing away at the hospital.

The second victim, according to Action News 17, remains alive and appears to have sustained non-life threatening injuries. 

In addition to charges related to the shooting death of Hutton, Hammond Police say Robinson also has a felony warrant for Accessory to Attempted Murder from an incident that occurred on November 26, 2020.

According to local authorities, Robinson was charged with First Degree Murder, Aggravated Obstruction of Roadway, Aggravated Criminal Damage, Assault by Drive-By Shooting, Obstruction of Justice, Illegal Discharge of a Weapon, and four counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.
