BATON ROUGE – Officials say more than 4,000 people in Louisiana have unclaimed money after a recent settlement with mortgage services.
State Treasurer said the state received $2.4 million after a settlement stemming from the 2008 housing bubble burst.
“If you lost your home to foreclosure during the national credit crisis, check our Unclaimed Property database to see if you are owed money,” Kennedy said. “We want to get this money back to you.”
Kennedy said the average borrower is owed at least $300. East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, St. Tammany, Orleans and Caddo parishes have the largest number of people owed money.
