BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies said they're searching for a work release inmate out of Livingston Parish who left his job earlier this week.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said Kevin Whetstone, 30, was working offshore on a tugboat and called a relative to pick him up after the boat docked Tuesday evening instead of going back to jail.

Investigators said Whetstone told the relative he was allowed to leave. He was serving time for a cocaine possession charge in Livingston Parish.

Sheriff's deputies said they believe Whetstone may still be in the Livingston Parish area. Anyone who knows where to find him should call the sheriff's office at (225) 389-5000.
