Homeowner dead, second person injured after large fire in Maurepas earlier this week
MAUREPAS - Two people were inside a wood-framed house when it erupted in flames earlier this week, leaving one of the occupants dead and another recovering in the hospital.
The fire happened Monday (May 24) on Herman Berthelot Road. In all, three structures were burned: a home, a camper, and a vacant home.
The State Fire Marshal released new information Wednesday. It said the 58-year-old woman who owned the home was killed. Her name was not released.
The other person inside when the fire erupted managed to escape and was taken to the hospital, investigators said.
The homeowner's body was found inside the home.
Investigators said there is so much damage, it's been hard to determine where and how the fire began, though the investigation is ongoing.
