PLAQUEMINE - Firefighters were called to an early morning fire at a plant in Plaquemine.

The fire was reported at approximately 4:14 a.m. at Westlake Chemical. According to a statement from the company, the fire happened in the Vinyl Chloride Monomer Unit at the facility. The unit was shut down and the fire was isolated to one system. No injuries were reported.

As a precaution, Evergreen Road was closed to traffic.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control by 6:25 a.m. Fence line monitoring indicates there was no offsite impact.
