UPDATE: Drag racing leads to fatal crash on Airline Hwy. Friday night
BATON ROUGE - State Police say drag racing led to a fatal crash on Airline Hwy. where one person was killed and two others were injured.
Sources say the crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Airline Highway near Barringer Foreman Road.
The crash took the life of 20-year-old Michael Bayles of Baton Rouge.

Through the initial investigation, State Police determined the crash occurred as Bayles was drag racing with an unknown vehicle in the southbound lanes of US 61.
US 61 (Airline Highway) North is closed at Barringer Foreman Road due to an accident. Traffic congestion is minimal.

As they approached the intersection of US 61 and Barringer Foreman, 18 year old William Foreman of Baton Rouge was preparing to make a U-turn, according to State Police. Bayles' 2010 Chevrolet Camaro then collided head-on with Foreman's 2013 Acura TSX in the intersection, State Police say.

Bayles was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered from fatal injuries as a result. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office.
Foreman and his passenger were both restrained and sustained serious injuries.
It is still unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash, according to State Police. A standard toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis.
