Child killed in crash on west side, driver charged
PLAQUEMINE – A child was killed in a car crash that injured as many as eight others near Jack Miller Landing Monday.
Authorities said Asha Cooper, 9, was killed in the crash. The driver of a small SUV the child was riding in was charged with negligent homicide and numerous child restraint violations. The driver was identified as Tommie Killough, a 29-year-old woman from Livonia. WBRZ learned Kiloough will also face passing in a no passing zone and driving under suspension charges.

Three medical helicopters and ground ambulances were dispatched to take the injured to hospitals in Baton Rouge after the crash shortly before 2 p.m. Investigators said Kiloough ignored the no passing zone on Highway 75 at a deep curve near a bayou and hit a turning vehicle. Kiloough's vehicle flipped several times, authorities said. The child was thrown from a vehicle and died.
Authorities said there were nine people in the five-passenger SUV when the crash happened. Of the nine, two were adults and seven were juveniles. Not everyone in the vehicle were related and authorities added Cooper is not Kiloough's child.
