BRPD: Suspect accused of beating 60-year-old to death arrested
BATON ROUGE - A man was arrested Tuesday for his alleged involvement in beating a man to death in early July.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said July 26 that Albert Gibson, 60, was involved in a fight with Desmond Orange, 27, around 7 p.m. on July 8. He was found gravely beaten outside Tony's Seafood on Plank Road, according to police.
Gibson was taken to a local hospital and died from his injuries weeks later, on July 23.
Officers arrested Orange on August 1. He was booked for second-degree murder.
"We been knowing him almost 40 years," said Sydney Pecora, who owns Hollywood Jewelers on Plank Road. Gibson would often do odd jobs for them. Pecora told WBRZ that Gibson had recently been in a bad wreck.
"With the wreck that he got into, it was pretty detrimental to his health. He had 60 staples from here to there and he couldn't really walk."
To him, it makes the fatal beating the 60 year old received that much more unfathomable.

"I was pretty heartbroken because he was a nice guy. He just was old, and I don't understand why anyone would kill someone that old and basically defenseless with the staples in his back, not really being able to defend himself."
