BATON ROUGE - As residents in Texas mourn the deaths of the 26 killed in Sunday's deadly church shooting, locals are recalling a similar incident that occurred right here in Baton Rouge.

"I felt so sad, it brought back memories," Robert Brown said. "Every time this happens, it brings back memories."

Brown lost his mother, father-in-law and two other family members 11 years ago. And Brown's daughter was murdered at another location. The man charged in their death was Brown's son-in-law, Anthony Bell.

The church on Dallas Drive in Baton Rouge has been closed since.

His wife, who was also in the church at the time, was shot in the head and later recovered.

"She doing fine, She's serving the lord and being positive about things" he said of his wife, Claudia Brown.

The church shooting in Texas is believed to be related to a case of domestic violence, just like the 2006 shooting.

Brown says his daughter and her husband were separated when he went when on the shooting rampage, but he forgives the shooter for what he did.

"He made his choice and he will have to suffer the consequences that go with that. But me and my family are going to serve the lord and part of that is forgiveness", Brown said about his former son-in-law.
