Back in Baton Rouge, man confesses to 2011 murder of wife
BATON ROUGE – Oscar Lozada spent his first Saturday in Louisiana in seven years inside a cell at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Lozada was extradited from Texas where he was originally booked into jail after deputies found him hiding in Mexico following his wife’s death in July 2011. Lozada, deputies said, killed his wife and fled the United States with their young daughter. First to South America then to Mexico where he was located.
Oscar Lozada confessed to the murder overnight and was booked into the local jail here, the sheriff said during a late news conference.
Lozada’s apprehension was the near sole focus of one East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s deputy.
Sylviane Lozada was killed and possibly dismembered. Her remains have never been found. Click HERE to read more about the case.
The couple's child was rescued from the father in Mexico and is in state care. Her mother's relatives plan to obtain custody of her soon.
