Ascension Parish sends help to Harvey Victims
HOUSTON - Like so many others, St. Amant Fire Chief James LeBlanc is haunted by last year's flood.
"I'm sitting in my office, two nights ago, and I'm looking at the TV and I'm seeing the devastation that's going on in Texas," said LeBlanc, "It's just rerunning everything in my head of what took place here last year."
So he decided to do something about it.
"I'm looking at that TV in my office, I'm thinking... 'We gotta go.'"
LeBlanc got together with Ascension Parish to get trucks to fill with supplies to bring to Houston flood victims.
"The people of Ascension are very giving and when the weather gets a little better here, we're going to really roll," said Parish President Kenny Matassa.
Matassa and US Congressman Garret Graves were there to help load up donations.
"These people sent us a lot of supplies last year, so we're returning the favor," said Matassa.
The cars and trucks full of supplies steadily rolled in all day. One man bringing an entire truck bed of water.
"We donated today because it could have simply hit us today," said Baton ROuge resident Al Cangelosi. "The Storm was right there in our backyard, so we just thought it was the right thing to do to help people out."
For LeBlanc, not only was it the right thing to do, it was the only thing.

"It was a week ago last year that Texas came to us, and we want to make sure that Texas knows they're in our hearts and we want to repay the favor to them," he said.
The donation center is located at barns 7 and 8 behind the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center. The group will be taking donations everyday from 9 am to 7 pm.
