After deadly crash, police call for more lanes on Hwy 190
LIVONIA - Police are calling for more turning lanes along Hwy 190 in Livonia.
"We have turning lanes on the East side of us, and turning lanes on the West side of our city limits. We don't have any turning lanes other than at our two red lights in Livonia," said Police Chief Bradley Joffrion.
He says distracted drivers and a lack of lanes are making the road extremely dangerous. There have been two deadly crashes along the stretch of road in the past year and Joffrion says it's time for a change.
The city has been plagued by the highway problem for decades, but know there is a solution. Turning lanes were added at an intersection in Livonia 5 years ago, and the number of crashes were cut down by 98 percent. A number that Joffrion called "staggering."

According to Joffrion, the city has brought up the addition of turning lanes along the stretch of highway, but have been turned down due to a lack of funding. Since Hwy 190 is a US highway, federal tax dollars would be needed to fix the problem.
