2 alarm fire destroys Baton Rouge restaurant
BATON ROUGE - Firefighters are still trying to determine what caused a two alarm fire that left the Cozumel Mexican Restaurant in charred ruins Saturday night.
According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, seven units, including two ladder trucks responded to the fire at 9720 Cortana Place around 11:18 p.m. Saturday. When firefighters arrived on the scene near the Cortana Mall, flames were already leaping through the roof of the building.
Firefighters contained the blaze but could not save the building. The restaurant was considered a total loss.
By dawn, the smell of smoke and the pile of rubble were all that remained of the building. The Baton Rouge Fire Department reports that no one was injured in the fire.
The cause is under investigation.
