BATON ROUGE - A minor accused of raping Madison Brooks hours before her death will stand trial as an adult.

Desmond Carter, 17, was moved to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Tuesday, just under a week after he was indicted for first-degree rape and third-degree rape.

Carter, who's from the Walker area, is one of four people arrested in the investigation and was the only juvenile suspect in the case.

Investigators allege that Brooks, 19, was raped after a night of heavy drinking in Tigerland. She died after she was struck by a car on Burbank Drive just hours later.

Two of the suspects, Carter and 18-year-old Kaivon Washington, admitted to having sex with Brooks and were initially booked on third-degree rape. The other two suspects, 28-year-old Everett Lee and 18-year-old Casen Carver, were booked as principals to third-degree rape.

A grand jury convened earlier this month to review the criminal case against the other three suspects, but no decision has been made on whether to formally charge them.
