BATON ROUGE – A 15-year-old was arrested Friday in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old gospel singer earlier in the week, police revealed.

The teenager, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged with first-degree murder. He was booked into juvenile jail, police said.

The juvenile was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Marshall Larks. Larks’ body was found in a wooded area of Spanish Town Road Sunday morning.

Larks was shot multiple times and his vehicle was stolen, police said.

The 15-year-old was pulled over the next day driving Lark’s vehicle and was taken into custody.

“If he’s actually responsible for the shooting, we’re not one hundred percent sure,” said BRPD spokesperson L’Jean McKneely. “We do know he was at the murder scene. We do know he was in possession of the vehicle.”

Larks is known among many church communities as a gospel singer. His funeral was Friday at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church just hours before police announced the arrest.
