Child dies from injuries related to school bus crash Tuesday
BATON ROUGE – A child and adult are now dead after a crash involving a school bus earlier this week.
Police said Friday, Skylar West, 3, died from injuries related to the crash. Dandrew West, 33, of Grosse Tete, died at the scene of the crash Tuesday.
The child had been in the hospital since the wreck on Airline Highway. The child was a passenger in the vehicle West was driving at the time of the crash.
West ran into the back of the bus as it was stopped in a turn lane on Airline Highway northbound at the McClelland intersection. West was entering the turn lane and did not stop, slamming into the back of the bus.
None of the 31 students on the bus were hurt. The bus driver was also uninjured, police said.
The roof of the car was seen peeled back as the front part of the vehicle was wedged under the bus.
The collision sparked a fire that was put out by an eyewitness who ran to the crash scene, police said.

The wreck happened around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The bus was transporting students to Redemptorist St. Gerard School.
